Steps on Creating A Seasonal Entryway

Winter Wonderland Entryway

DIY Blogger Jennifer of Tatertots & Jello shows Glidden® how to bring some holiday cheer to your entryway.

Through the winter months, cheery home decorations can make the dark, short days a little brighter. Here are a few tips to help you create winter wonderland décor in your home.

The most important tip - make your entryway inviting. Family and friends will feel the cheer! Before you start bringing in winter wonderland décor, however, make sure you are starting with a fresh, fun coat of paint on your front door. You don’t have to be as bold as I was with my bright yellow door (for a similar look, try Twinkle Little Star). I chose the bright yellow because it contrasts with the dark grey of the cottage exterior and conveys happiness and joy to visitors and passers-by. Whether it’s bright or a little more subtle, make sure to choose a warm, welcoming color.

Once you have the base colors settled, you can add some winter wonderland décor. Here are a few tips.

You can use artificial if you have to, but a little bit of fresh-cut garland is a great choice. Often, the cooler weather outdoors will help it last longer, and the natural, organic shapes and textures are a great contrast to the straight lines of your home.

If you have a bench on your porch, use it. If not, consider picking up an inexpensive, weatherproof bench and adding some color and texture with pillows that can stand up to the elements. I love adding some color to contrast or complement the door and décor. This year I even added a pillow with a deer-head print.

A few lit topiaries, a fresh wreath and a simple, fresh doormat completed the look. Any evergreen wreath, real or artificial, will look great throughout the winter season.

Once visitors come inside my home, they see a clean, white wall color that contrasts with the wood floors and provides a welcoming, warm feeling. If your house is darker, cheer it up with bright accents, or consider brightening your entryway with a fresh coat of paint in a color like Snow Storm.
