Glidden^® Gripper Primer

Area Preparation:

Spackle holes or cracks • Lightly sand glossy areas.
Make sure all areas are clean, sound and free of flaking paint or all substances such as oil, grease, dirt...anything that will get between your surface and your primer • Wash mildewed surfaces with a solution of 16 oz (473 mL) liquid household bleach and two oz (59 mL) non-ammoniated liquid detergent per gallon (3.785 L) of water • Rinse well with clean water • Allow to dry 24 hours • Apply Glidden™ GRIPPER^® primer & sealer to properly prepared previously painted surfaces.

IT’S TIME TO PRIME - PREPARING UNPAINTED SURFACES

WALLBOARD - Joint compound must dry for two days before you prime with this product.

WOOD - Interior, sand lightly to a smooth surface, then prime with this product. Exterior, spot prime pine knots with this product. Prime entire surface with this product. Slight discoloration on staining woods is normal. If discoloration is considerable, apply a second coat for improved protection.

CONCRETE, PLASTER, MASONRY AND STUCCO - Cure for 30 days before painting. “Slick poured” or pre-cast concrete needs

SURFACE PREPARATION
Chemical cleaning or a light sandblasting. Thoroughly rinse with water and allow to fully dry. Remove loose aggregate and prime with this product. For concrete block, fill with a GLIDDEN block filler.

STEEL - Prime with a metal primer.

GALVANIZED METAL AND ALUMINUM - Clean off oils, then
prime with this product or a metal primer.

WEATHERED ALUMINUM AND VINYL SIDING - Remove dirt and chalk. Prime with this product. Do not repaint vinyl siding with colors darker than the original color; the siding may warp.

Application:

Mix thoroughly • Apply at package consistency • Do not thin • Apply generously, no overspreading • If painting will be interrupted for more than 15 minutes keep brushes and rollers wet by wrapping them with tinfoil or plastic wrap to prevent the paint from drying on equipment
and clean up easier • Dries to touch in 30 minutes and to recoat in one hours at 77°F (25°C) • For maximum stain resistance allow 4 hours before recoating • Apply at 350-400 sq ft/gal. (8.5-10 m2/L) • Actual coverage may vary depending on surface texture, porosity and application method • For best results, use with a GLIDDEN topcoat.

Recommended Substrates:

Glidden™ GRIPPER^® WHITE is a premium quality water-based, fast-drying bonding primer and sealer for use on all wood, masonry or previously painted surfaces. Suitable for interior or exterior applications. Provides excellent adhesion to a variety of surfaces including drywall, wood, cured plaster, masonry or galvanized metal and aluminum. Resists checking and cracking when used over bare exterior plywood, T-1-11, Douglas fir or yellow pine. Highly alkali resistant. May be applied to new concrete or masonry surfaces with a pH up to 13.0 and prior to a 30 day cure.
