Details

Area Preparation:

Surfaces to be coated must be dry. Remove all loose and peeling paint, dirt, grease and any other surface contaminants. Putty all nail holes and caulk all cracks and open seams. Sand all glossy, rough, and patched surfaces. Masonry and plaster surfaces must be allowed to cure for 30 days prior to painting. Uncoated substrates, repaired surfaces or lightly stained areas may require additional coats. For severe stains, water marks, and other challenging conditions, use a premium problem solving primer.

WARNING! If you scrape, sand, or remove old paint, you may release lead dust or fumes. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST OR FUMES CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a properly fitted NIOSH-approved respirator and prevent skin contact to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop. Before you start, find out how to protect yourself and your family by contacting the USEPA National Lead Information Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to www.epa.gov/lead. In Canada, contact a regional Health Canada office. Follow these instructions to control exposure to other hazardous substances that may be released during surface preparation.

CONCRETE/MASONRY BLOCK: Mortar should cure for at least 30 days and preferably 90 days prior to painting. Fill block with an appropriate block filler. Surfaces previously coated with water thinned cement-based paint must be prepared with extra care. If the material appears to be adhering tightly, a masonry sealer may be applied to seal the surface. Check adhesion by applying a piece of masking tape. If the sealer peels off and has loose particles, remove all chalking or crumbling material, re-seal and re-check adhesion.

GYPSUM WALLBOARD-DRYWALL: Nails or screws should be countersunk, and they along with any indentations should be mudded flush with the surface, sanded smooth and cleaned to remove any dust prior to painting the substrate.

PLASTER: Plaster, hardcoat, skim coat, or other alkaline surfaces should be allowed to cure for at least 30 days prior to painting.

WOOD: Unpainted wood or wood in poor condition should be sanded smooth, wiped clean, then primed. Any knots or resinous areas must be primed before painting. Countersink all nails, putty flush with surface before painting.

Application:

Stir thoroughly before and occasionally during use. When using more than one can of the same color, intermix to ensure color uniformity.
Application Method: Apply with a high quality brush, roller, paint pad, or by spray equipment. Where necessary, apply a second coat. Allow each coat to dry before applying the next coat.
Application Equipment: For smooth surfaces, use a polyester nylon brush or 3/16” - 3/8” nap roller cover. For textured surfaces, use a nylon brush or roller designed for this purpose. If applied by spray, back-brushing or back-rolling is recommended. For airless spray application, use tip size 0.015” - 0.021” and pressure range of 1500 - 2000 psi.
Thinning: DO NOT THIN.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Won't Use Glidden Again Many years ago I worked for Glidden selling the products in a retail setting. Have used them over the years and never had a problem until now. Applying the semi gloss interior paint of a mix of newly textured and existing walls, it covers very poorly, does not adhere well and does not dry with a consistent sheen. Works OK on the fresh texture but coverage an sheen are uneven. On the existing painted surfaces ,this is akin to smearing grease on the wall and hoping it will look better once it dries. If it has a primer built in I would not think the adhesion and coverage would be so poor. I will go another brand going forward.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Chips off! Even over a proper primer this paint doesn't stick! It chips off with a bump or a fingernail.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Paint I used this paint in my bathroom. I always make sure to have a fan on when someone is bathing and about an hour afterwards. I always prep my walls the day before painting. Not only did I have to put three coats of this paint on my walls, but here we are almost two months later, and if water happens to get on the wall when I go to wipe the water off guess what comes with it? Oh yeah, the paint! So not only do the water marks stay on the wall, but the paint comes off as well. I want my money back!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Experience. Poor coverage. I have been purchasing Glidden Premium paint and primer in 1 in different colors for the past 5 years. To this point I have been very satisfied. I just had an experience which I can honestly say I have never had with this paint or any paint and primer in 1. Very poor coverage despite being very careful and meticulous with application. Inconsistent color despite thorough mixing. Had to paint the rooms twice which is not what you expect with a thicker paint and primer combo. Also as said in other feedback, the paint smells very strong when it dries. Smells like strong vinegar. This was the most expensive experience I have ever had with Glidden in terms of time and extra gallons. Did the formula change? Were costs cut? Sure seems like others have had similar experiences. So dissatisfied because I used to love this paint and recommend it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage, peels and cracks I bought this terrible paint at home depot, I will never do that again. I have used glidden products before and have had good luck, but this lack of quality has turned me off. As a former professional painter, I am quick to recognize a bad paint, and this is BAD paint. Coverage was terrible, 3 coats needed. (I even primed before I painted too). After the paint dried it started cracking and peeling.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed Was very disappointed with the results of this paint. Very poor coverage and difficulties applying . Have recently been painting several rooms in the house with a different brand and had no similar problems.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Super thin, runs, barely covers Bought a gallon at Home Depot yesterday. Tangerine type color to go over cream color walls. The paint was very thin and watery. I painted the trim with a brush and had to constantly go back and pick up runs. Rolled the walls with a roller for smooth surfaces. The trim I painted by hand had to be redone because it didn't cover (usually you get "framing" because the hand painted areas went on thicker). I see other people are saying the same thing. I planned on using the rest for the kitchen walls which are currently a greyish blue. I expect at least 2 coats to cover that. I have done a lot of painting, a LOT. I would never buy this again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This paint smells bad We purchased 2 gallons of this paint in a semi gloss in a creamy white color. Painted the hall, ceiling entry and one corner wall in our living room. As it started to dry, the odor got really strong. It's been 6 days and we've had to keep our windows open and sleep with our bedroom door closed. Its been beautiful weather but It's raining today so we had to close the windows. I'm currently simmering lemons and put out a cup of vinegar in the hall hoping this smell will go away. I'm sick from the smell. Not sure what to do next but it's bad supposed to be mid 70's this week so windows will be open
