Spred Complete® exterior paint is ideal for all exterior siding, eaves and downspouts. Specially formulated with 100% acrylic to protect against UV rays, color fading and all weather conditions. Ideal for wood, stucco, concrete, preprimed and unprimed hardboard, fiber cement board, weathered aluminum, weathered vinyl siding* and metal.

*Vinyl siding and similar plastic composites should not be painted with a color darker than the original color. Painting vinyl siding or plastic composites with a darker color may cause them to warp.

Details

Area Preparation:

GENERAL SURFACE PREPARATION: All surfaces must be sound, dry, clean and free of oil, grease, dirt, rust, mildew, form release agents, curing compounds, loose and flaking paint and other foreign substances. Glossy surfaces must be dulled by sanding to ensure proper adhesion. Remove sanding dust. Fill all cracks and nail holes with spackle and spot prime with this product. For best results, prime heavily stained areas or watermarks with a stain blocking primer.

NEW SURFACES:
Wood – Countersink nails, spot prime nails and pine knots with this product. Prime entire surface with this product. Prime badly weathered wood and bleeding wood such as redwood or cedar with an alkyd primer. Caulk with an acrylic caulk.
Preprimed and Unprimed Hardboard - Prime entire surface and all edges with the product. Caulk with an acrylic caulk.
Concrete and Masonry - Cure at least 30 days before painting. pH must be 10.0 or lower. Roughen slick poured or precast concrete and remove sealers by chemical cleaning or abrasive method such as sandsweeping. Rinse thoroughly with water and allow to dry. Remove loose aggregate. Prime concrete with this product, a latex primer or a masonry bonding primer. Fill concrete block with a latex block filler.
Preprimed and Unprimed Fiber Cement Board - Prime entire surface and all edges with this product. Caulk with an acrylic caulk.
Steel Galvanized Metal and Aluminum - Prime with the appropriate waterborne metal primer or solventborne metal primer.

PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES: Wash to remove contaminants. Rinse thoroughly with water and allow to dry. Dull glossy areas by light sanding. Remove sanding dust. Remove loose paint.
Scrub heavy chalk areas and overhead areas such as eaves with soap and water. Remove all mildew by washing with a solution of 16 oz (473 mL) liquid household bleach and two oz (59 mL) non-ammoniated liquid detergent per gallon (3.785 L) of water. Rinse surfaces clean with water and allow to dry for 24 hours. Prime bare areas with primer specified under NEW SURFACES. Weathered Aluminum and Vinyl
Siding - Remove dirt and chalk. Prime with this product. If chalk remains after cleaning, prime with an exterior acrylic primer. Do not repaint vinyl siding with colors darker than the original color; the siding may warp.

Application:

Mix thoroughly and STIR FREQUENTLY WHILE USING. May be applied by brush, roller or airless spray. No thinning required. For airless spray application, use a .015”-.019” tip at 2000 psi, adjust pressure as needed. Backroll after spraying. Always keep a wet edge to avoid lap marks. On horizontal siding, paint several boards all the way across to a natural break. On vertical siding, begin at the top on several boards and work down. When using more than one container, follow this painting tip to ensure color uniformity: when three quarters of can is used, refill from the next thoroughly mixed can. Two coats minimum are required for new and uncoated surfaces. When applying over previously painted surfaces, some colors may require more than one coat. An additional coat may be necessary for dramatic color changes, dark colors or over rough surfaces for optimal appearance and hide. Establish that air, surface and material temperatures are above 35°F (2°C) and at least 5oF above the dew point prior to painting. Do not apply at temperatures below 35°F or when temperatures are expected to drop below 35°F within 48 hours of application. Do not apply if rain or snow is expected within 48 hours. On large expanses of metal, temperatures must be 50°F (10°C) or higher. Check temperature requirements on any accompanying primer  used.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have used Glidden for the most part of my life. I have been in the special coatings field for the most part of my life. I have used PPG and Glidden on all applications prime to finish. I was in the industrial field for quiet a few years and convinced my employer at the time to convert to Glidden Industrial coatings that it would preform at a higher Quality than Sherwin Willems Paint Corp, at the time. This was in the early 70`s and late 80`s , we were working at the Denton Ship Yard , in South Carolina . Mt Pleasant. As a professional in the Industry, I led my self to conquer some of the most difficult task in front of me with Glidden Corp and also PPG which at the time was not assonated with the Glidden Corp , but a Competitor.. I explained to all the Home owners that if they treat their House as they do their car it would last for years on end. Every year wash their home as they would their car and the Paint product would last 10 to 15 years , if it was applied correctly. My present home was painted with exterior Glidden Semi Gloss and we have been in our home now 10 Years and 4 months. no sigh of failure in the Glidden body and Used PPG on the trim and the same applies,. Thank you for your product and its many appliques. Herman Broadaway .
