A New Mood for My Powder Room - Bathroom Colors

Painting a whole house can be intimidating… where to start?  Blogger Melissa Michaels of The Inspired Room tells Glidden® how she managed to get by with a little help from her friends.

When we first moved into our house three years ago, I really wanted to personalize it by moving away from the flesh-colored walls the builder chose. I was craving rich and warm neutrals! But every wall in our 2,500 square foot house needed to be painted and I didn’t have the time to tackle it all myself. Since I was a little overwhelmed by the task ahead, a friend of mine suggested I host a painting party to get the ball rolling. I wasn’t sure about asking for help from new friends, but it turned out to be a really fun day! We decided to start by painting the powder room because it was a very small space and would be easy to finish in a short period of time.

Since this was the first room in the house that we painted, there was no established paint color scheme. I knew I would probably repaint once I got a better feel for the overall color and style direction of the home, so I wasn’t too concerned about making a bold choice or choosing something I would regret later. I had paint from another project that I didn’t end up needing, so I decided to just utilize the paint I already had. The deep olive brown color was a nice contrast with the white woodwork and the vanity, which we painted white as well. The new wall color warmed up the room and created the dramatic mood change and personality I was looking for.

The painting party was a great way to kick-start our paint projects, and we got to hang out with new friends at the same time. The simple makeover gave me hope that our new house would eventually feel like home! It’s amazing how paint can change the whole personality of a room, isn’t it?

A couple of years later, we are now getting ready to repaint this powder room again. I’m thinking I might need to host another painting party! Anyone want to come help?
