DIY Blogger Nicole Balch of Making It Lovely tells Glidden® how she used color to bring a nostalgic warmth to her kitchen makeover.

My husband and I completely redid our kitchen when we moved into our home five years ago. The room had white walls, with painted-on blue daisies to try and make it homey (they tried! It didn’t work, but at least they put forth an effort, right?).  There were also old oak cabinets, faux-wood laminate countertops, and original (100-year-old) maple flooring.

We ripped out the old cabinets and replaced them with new white ones, brought in new appliances, and gave the space a whole new life. My grandmother had a yellow kitchen, and I suppose the notion stuck with me because I chose yellow for our new kitchen too. (Try Wayward Wind for a similar look.)

Before and After of Grandma's Kitchen

The new yellow walls tied in with the tone of the floor, and bringing in white cabinets kept the room feeling light and fresh.

The kitchen has served us well for the past five years, but I can’t help but think it’s time for a little change here and there. Maybe it’s time to repaint? Why not? With neutral flooring, cabinets, and counters, the walls would be an easy thing to change to make the whole room feel new again!
