Details

Area Preparation:

Surfaces to be coated must be clean and dry. Remove all loose, peeling paint, dirt, grease, and any other surface contaminants. Putty all nail holes and caulk all cracks and open seams. Sand all glossy, rough and patched surfaces. This product is self-priming for previously painted walls and ceilings in good condition. However, when applied to new drywall, two coats are required with the first coat acting as the primer. Uncoated substrates, repaired surfaces, or lightly stained areas may require more than one coat. For severe stains, water marks, and other challenging conditions, use a premium problem solving primer.

WARNING! If you scrape, sand, or remove old paint, you may release lead dust or fumes. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST OR FUMES CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a properly fitted NIOSH-approved respirator and prevent skin contact to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop. Before you start, find out how to protect yourself and your family by contacting the USEPA National Lead Information Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to www.epa.gov/lead. In Canada contact a regional Health Canada office. Follow these instructions to control exposure to other hazardous substances that may be released during surface preparation.

GYPSUM WALLBOARD-DRYWALL: Nails or screws should be countersunk, and they along with any indentations should be mudded flush with the surface, sanded smooth and cleaned to remove any dust, then prime prior to painting the substrate.

MASONRY: New masonry should cure for at least 30 days and preferably 90 days prior to priming and painting. The pH of the substrate must be less than 10 before priming with an alkali resistant primer.

PLASTER: Plaster, hardcoat, skim coat, or other alkaline surfaces should be allowed to cure for at least 30 days prior to priming with an alkali resistant primer.

WOOD: Unpainted wood or wood in poor condition should be sanded smooth, wiped clean, then primed. Any knots or resinous areas must be primed before painting. Countersink all nails, putty flush with surface, then prime.

Application:

Stir thoroughly. When using more than one container of the same color, intermix to ensure color uniformity. Apply when air, product and surface temperatures are 50°F (10°C) or above.
Application Equipment: Apply with a high quality brush, roller or by airless spray equipment.
Airless Spray: For spray application use tip 0.015” - 0.017”

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bought on a recommendation - My error for listenin While preparing to paint a house interior, someone mentioned Glidden Diamond so I bought it. Hired a painter to apply it and he kept mentioning a problem of the paint lifting off the wall as he made a second roller pass. I thought he was just trying to explain why everything was taking so long so didn't pay much attention until I used the paint myself. First roller pass is fine but while making a second pass, parts of the first pass lift off or clump badly. Found if you apply an extremely thin first coat, let it dry and then do a second coat, it goes on smoothly. Since this is a paint and primer, my intent was to not HAVE to do a second coat. Very disappointed in this product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed I decided to try Glidden Diamond, I was very disappointed with the paint. It's very THIN, and coverage is subpar. For being the top of the line paint for Glidden, it's not a great product compared to the many brands I have used in the past.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Diamond paint even better with rebate Have used this paint to paint over a deep yellow and a home depot orange colors. Coverage was amazing a coral color over the yellow and a beige over the orange. Coral over the yellow was amazing one coat and few areas of touch up where roller didn't have enough paint. The beige was little trickier, I swear it wasn't covering with a good amount of paint on roller and I'd have to reapply another coat. But about hour later it was solid beige its like paint morps or something. Make sure you roller loaded with paint and apply good coat. No smell either, its a great product kudos Glidden great paint at great price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Paint But Be Careful of Sheen Levels I'm a professional painter with my own company. Diamond paint brushes and rolls real easy and has great coverage. Most reviews where people complain is mainly because they don't do this for a living. You should be able to adapt to different brands of paint to make them work and look good. But after saying that this paint is user friendly. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the sheen levels are way off. For example diamond flat is eggshell, eggshell diamond is satin, etc... I do use this product for clients but would use it MORE if sheen was correct. I have hard time selling this product to a customer when having to explain about sheen level.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Severe adhesion problems Never have used this type of paint before on drywall and probably never will again. Now I'm not sure if this is a paint problem or a drywall problem but I am having severe adhesion problems with newly installed drywall with a level 5 finish. I am a general contractor in Scottsdale, Arizona and never have seen paint peel such as this after vacuuming the wall with a shop vac, then wiping the wall down with a damp, clean sponge, and then using the bleach and detergent/soap mixture as advised by Glidden on their product installation guide. The paint peeled off so easily, and in huge sheets that I had no idea how it was adhering to the wall at all. I was starting to roll my second coat when I notice paint "pick-up" on my roller and all over the wall as I spread the paint. It then lead to patches of paint coming off the wall. This is when I stopped, let everything dry and grabbed a scraper. Boy, what a nightmare, and after going through all that you do to achieve a level 5, smooth finish drywall system, I wasn't very amused. After scraping everything off, I bought Glidden's Gripper Primer, only to have probIems with that peeling as well. This was after scraping, shop vac-ing, and wiping the wall down again prior to painting. I had originally planned on covering a couple of the walls with tile from floor to ceiling but changed my mind. So I treated those, which were Hardy backerboard not drywall, the same and they had NO peeling or adhesion issues. Doing my research as I speak now to find out if this is a paint or drywall issue but will not be using this product again. I have decided to paper or treat the wall with a decorative paneling or tin style tile.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Way too thin As noted by others the paint is too thin so it is taking at the least 3 coats of paint, we are doing a large project we bought 17 gallons of paint. We are so disappointed with having to use so many coats and we chose eggshell because we didn't want high sheen. Disappointed with wash ability, easily marred.
