Details

Area Preparation:

Surfaces to be coated must be dry. Remove all loose and peeling paint, dirt, grease and any other surface contaminants. Putty all nail holes and caulk all cracks and open seams. Sand all glossy, rough, and patched surfaces. Masonry and plaster surfaces must be allowed to cure for 30 days prior to painting. Uncoated substrates, repaired surfaces or lightly stained areas may require additional coats. For severe stains, water marks, and other challenging conditions, use a premium problem solving primer.

WARNING! If you scrape, sand, or remove old paint, you may release lead dust or fumes. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST OR FUMES CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a properly fitted NIOSH-approved respirator and prevent skin contact to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop. Before you start, find out how to protect yourself and your family by contacting the USEPA National Lead Information Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to www.epa.gov/lead. In Canada, contact a regional Health Canada office. Follow these instructions to control exposure to other hazardous substances that may be released during surface preparation.

CONCRETE/MASONRY BLOCK: Mortar should cure for at least 30 days and preferably 90 days prior to painting. Fill block with an appropriate block filler. Surfaces previously coated with water thinned cement-based paint must be prepared with extra care. If the material appears to be adhering tightly, a masonry sealer may be applied to seal the surface. Check adhesion by applying a piece of masking tape. If the sealer peels off and has loose particles, remove all chalking or crumbling material, re-seal and re-check adhesion.

GYPSUM WALLBOARD-DRYWALL: Nails or screws should be countersunk, and they along with any indentations should be mudded flush with the surface, sanded smooth and cleaned to remove any dust prior to painting the substrate.

PLASTER: Plaster, hardcoat, skim coat, or other alkaline surfaces should be allowed to cure for at least 30 days prior to painting.

WOOD: Unpainted wood or wood in poor condition should be sanded smooth, wiped clean, then primed. Any knots or resinous areas must be primed before painting. Countersink all nails, putty flush with surface before painting.

Application:

Stir thoroughly before and occasionally during use. When using more than one can of the same color, intermix to ensure color uniformity.
Application Method: Apply with a high quality brush, roller, paint pad, or by spray equipment. Where necessary, apply a second coat. Allow each coat to dry before applying the next coat.
Application Equipment: For smooth surfaces, use a polyester nylon brush or 3/16” - 3/8” nap roller cover. For textured surfaces, use a nylon brush or roller designed for this purpose. If applied by spray, back-brushing or back-rolling is recommended. For airless spray application, use tip size 0.015” - 0.021” and pressure range of 1500 - 2000 psi.
Thinning: DO NOT THIN.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Paint is running, bubbling, comes off when wiped After sanding washing and letting surface dry, I painted my whole house with Glidden Premium. I let paint in the bathroom dry for 48 hours before showering. A month later the condensation on the walls in the bathroom is turning grey from the paint and is staining my white baseboards grey. It is also starting to bubble. On the other walls in the house, when I wipe them down it turns the rag grey (the color of the walls). I can also use a damp finger and rub the walls and it will turn my finger a milky grey color.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth the headache Unless you are prepared to do 2-3 coats of paint I WOULDN'T buy this particular Glidden paint. Too thin, runs off the wall and needs to be applied several times for a thorough job done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from kitchen repaint Have used Glidden for years! Totally repainted kitchen with Glidden as I did 12 years ago. Rolls on walls great with good coverage. When I repainted my wood cabinets as I did in past with Glidden Evermore, which is no longer available. I called Glidden tech support & was told to use the Glidden Premium as it has replaced it. The only drawback on using premium vs evermore is the drying time, as it is still a little tacky after several weeks, but drying.
