Explore Color Trends Through the Years

Trends evolve. Preferences evolve. You evolve. With paint, your home can, too! Since 2020, we have explored understated grays, deep purples and rich reds. This year, we are excited to highlight Artifact, a calm fresh aqua, as the 2027 Glidden color of the year. Any guesses on where we will go next?
2027: Artifact
Life feels pretty noisy these days, and people are tired of being told what they should do, buy, or follow next. Instead, they're focusing on what actually works for them. They're looking for a reset. A chance to step back, figure out what matters, and make choices that feel right for them. When everything feels like a lot, your space should not. Artifact (PPG10-16) is that perfect “hit reset” color. Not a reinvention. Just a fresh realignment. Calm, grounded and easy to live with. No remodel required.

2026: Warm Mahogany
Warm Mahogany (PPG1060-7) is a rich, grounded and timeless red. It’s bold enough to draw immediate attention and reserved enough to make a timeless statement, making it a color that outlasts the moment and owns the mood. Warm Mahogany reflects consumers' desire for colors that feel both comforting and expressive. Its rich warmth and versatility creates spaces centered around connection, relaxation, and everyday living.

Purple Basil (PPG1046-7) speaks to the continuation of consumers unapologetically selecting colors that bring them joy, worrying less and less about resale value and creating your space because of YOU. Consumers are becoming more and more comfortable with color, and BOLD color, and Purple Basil gives you that freedom to empower a bold color. For 2025, purple wasn’t just permitted, it was encouraged.

2024: Limitless
For 2024, we named Limitless (PPG1091-3) as the COTY due to the world entering a new era of explosive creativity and change. We saw an unmatched desire from consumers to express their personality in whatever way makes them happy. This fresh and energizing take on a neutral made it simple to upgrade neutrals and freshen up a space.

Vining Ivy (PPG1148-6) is the color that keeps people guessing. Is it blue? Is it green? The answer is yes. It builds on the popularity of nature inspired greens while bringing in the richness and depth of blue. The result is a color that feels grounded yet full of personality. At a time when people are craving simplicity and a focus on life's little moments, Vining Ivy takes the guesswork out of decorating and makes it easy to create a space that feels uniquely your own.

2022: Guacamole
2022 was the year Glidden deemed Guacamole (PPG1121-5), for once, isn’t extra and took the world’s guac-loving affinity to a whole new level. This spirited yet soothing green brings an organic energy to any space, and since we had all just lived through the strangest year on record, homeowners were in search of rejuvenation and growth.

Moving into 2021, Glidden went a little rogue. For the first time ever, Glidden selected an Accent Color of the Year which was Aqua Fiesta (PPG1147-4). Aqua Fiesta is bright and fun and the spruce-up color everyone needed going into 2021.

2020: Whirlwind
Starting with 2020, Glidden grabbed a bottle of wine, pen and paper and wrote a breakup letter with COTY and fully embraced the cool gray era, knowing very well that Whirlwind is a color that people will ACTUALLY use. This was the “anti-COTY.” It has a subtle hint of blue to give it a calming effect, which was precisely what we needed (even if we didn’t know it yet) given the events that unfolded in 2020.
